Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the MSc Psychology program, graduates will be able to::
- Master Psychological Theories and Advanced Concepts: Demonstrate advanced knowledge of core psychological domains including clinical, cognitive, developmental, neuropsychological, and social psychology.
- Design and Conduct Independent Research: Develop and execute original psychological research using both quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including advanced statistical analysis and ethical research protocols.
- Apply Psychological Principles to Practice: Integrate psychological theory with evidence-based interventions in counseling, coaching, education, and organizational behavior settings.
- Demonstrate Ethical and Culturally Competent Practice: Apply global ethical standards in mental health and research, with sensitivity to cultural, social, and individual diversity especially relevant in multicultural societies.
- Assess and Intervene in Mental Health Contexts: Conduct psychological assessments and apply intervention strategies for individuals and groups across a variety of mental health challenges using DSM-5 and other diagnostic tools.
- Utilize Contemporary Psychological Tools and Technologies: Engage with modern digital tools in psychology, including computerized testing, tele-mental health platforms, and research analytics software (e.g., SPSS, NVivo)
- Communicate Effectively with Stakeholders: Deliver complex psychological concepts clearly to clients, colleagues, educators, organizations, and policy-makers both orally and in written form.
- Develop a Global Perspective on Psychological Practice: Analyze psychological issues from a global and cross-cultural standpoint, with relevance to African, Western, and international psychological practices.
Upon graduation, students will be able to:
Practice as professional psychologists in educational, clinical, organizational, or community settings (subject to local licensing requirements).
Design and lead research projects in academic, healthcare, or nonprofit environments.
Deliver psychological assessments, interventions, and behavioral plans for individuals and groups.
Work within multidisciplinary teams to address mental health needs in hospitals, schools, NGOs, or private practice.
Communicate scientific findings through conferences, publications, or consultation with stakeholders.
Pursue doctoral study (Ph.D. or PsyD) or specialized certifications in psychotherapy, child psychology, trauma counseling, or industrial-organizational psychology.
Contribute meaningfully to global mental health advocacy and evidence-based policy development, particularly within emerging markets such as Nigeria.
